My Unfinished Work

Today for cybersmart we had to do unfinished work, please give me feedback.

My holiday in One Tree Point

 In the holidays I went to One Tree Point for 2 days. My Auntie,Uncle,Cousin and grand parents were there too. On the first day when I got up my Nana made french toast for me. It was really good the only thing bad about it was that they only had golden syrup but I prefer maple syrup. After that we stayed around home and then went to the dairy with my grand parents dog. I got a packet of bubble gum then we went to the beach and collected firewood. After that we walked around the neighborhood at one point a big scary dog came up to us and growled. My dad had to step in and make himself big to protect us after that the dog walked away. When we got home we watched the Olympics, played with my cousin Tyler, ate dinner and went to bed. In the morning I got up and went down stairs for breakfast. My uncle had prepared bacon and pancakes. After that we watched Olympics ate lunch and went home.

Matariki, the last day of the term

This term in my class we have learnt a lot about Matariki. We had lots of different types of tasks. One of these was to make a doc with what you know and what you learnt about Matariki. This is mine!

What I know about Matariki

• Matariki is the symbol of the Maori new year.

• There are seven sister stars that celebrate Matariki.

• Matariki wasn’t celebrated much 10 years ago.

• It was a symbol for the Maori people to start harvesting their crops.

• Matariki is only celebrated in New Zealand.

What I learned about Matariki

• All the stories about Matariki are similar about what the stars mean but how the Maori celebrate it is different.

• Matariki is connected to the people and their well-being and is the guardian of the other 8 stars.

• Waiti is connected to all of the fish in rivers and lakes.

• Waita is connected to all the food we get from our oceans. 

• Tupu-a-nuku is connected to all the food that grows in the ground.

• Tupuarangi is connected to all that grows in our trees such as fruit and berries.

• Waipun-a-rangi is connected to the rain and seasons.

• Ururangi is connected to the winds. 

• Pohutukawa is connected to all our friends and family who have passed away. 

• Hiwa-i-te-rangi is the wishing star which the Maori gave their wishes to.

• Matariki symbolises the start of the Maori hunting season and is a sign for farmers to harvest their crops. It is also a sign of the Maori new year.

Today is the last day of the term and I'm really excited because we are having a shared lunch! I bought lolly cake and there are lots of other yummy food. I can't wait!

Cross Country!!!!!

This Wednesday I went to the zones cross country because I had come 1st in cross country at my school. When we got there there were already 2 schools there after that another 6 schools turned up so there were 8 schools in total! 

I am 9 years old so I was versing all the 9 year old boys. I decided to go to the start line a little bit early once all the 9 year old boys were at the start line it was ready to race. 

We were standing at the starting line for awhile when all of a sudden I here a bang and everyone starts running so I started running to I was getting squished at the back due to my late start but I started to make some ground when I saw the finish line I ran as fast as I could! In the end I came around 13th! 

I was very proud of my self I can't wait till next years cross country!

panikeke

 Today in my class we had a panikeke a Samoan food. On the outside it tasted like a soggy doughnut but on the inside it tasted like bread with a pinch of banana. The panikeke was round as a ball and my Whole class liked it! I really like panikeke!

Bee experiment

 Today in my class we had to do a work sheet about a bee. We watched a video and received a dead bee,tweezers and a magnifying glass. Me and my friend Cyrus (make sure to check out his blog by the way) got a Queen bumble bee which was good because it was big and easy to study! We had to name the body parts of the bee. I didn't feel scared because I have been around bee's for a long time. Some of the kid's in my class were screaming which was kind of funny. The bee stunk it smelt like a rotten potato. I had lots of fun and I learnt a lot about bee's!
